CEVA to Deliver Guaranteed Services to North America

CEVA LogisticsGlobal freight and logistics company, CEVA Logistics, has announced the introduction of Guaranteed Delivery services in the United States and Canada, the services which are to introduced on the first of December will offer a secure chain of custody with real-time, web-enabled visibility.

The new Guaranteed Delivery service will also be supported by 24-hour live customer support to provide proactive responses to any potential service disruptions as well as ensuring CEVA’s performance meets the customers’ requirements.

Abu Dhabi Customs to Debut AS&E Inspection Equipment

The Customs Administration of the of middle eastern emirate, Abu Dhabi, is set to debut cargo X-ray inspection equipment from American supplier of x-ray and related systems, American Science and Engineering (AS&E), as part of Abu Dhabi’s International Freight Week.

In July of this year, the AS&E's OmniView(tm) Gantry Inspection System is the industry's most comprehensive cargo and vehicle inspection system for detecting security threats and contraband.Customs Administration of Abu Dhabi purchased multiple American Science and Engineering X-ray detection systems.  The systems used to scan cargo trucks, passenger vehicles as well as containers at strategic border checkpoints, will be deployed by the emirate to protect borders and citizens, as well as facilitating trade.

Maersk Releases Updated Policy for Pirate Zones

Global shipping conglomerate, the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group (Maersk) in responding to the increasing threat from hijacking and pirate attacks at sea, has announced an updated policy for its ships that under normal circumstances would enter into the Gulf of Aden as well as those sailing off the coast of East Africa.Maersk Tanker

The company has now stated in a press release that Vessels without adequate speed or freeboard, will, for the time being avoid the Gulf of Aden and seek alternative routing south of the Cape of Good Hope and east of Madagascar. However, given the increased naval activity in the regions affected by pirates, Maersk has also said that subject to availability, some of the company’s vessels may still join naval convoys transiting the Gulf of Aden.

New Calgary Distribution Centre in the Works for UPS

Global package delivery company, United Parcel Service (UPS), announced this week that it will develop a new distribution centre at Calgary International Airport, the company initiating the project in order to meet the rising demands of the regions economy. 

United Parcel ServiceCosting approximately $26 million dollars, the  150,000 square foot facility will, according to the company, offer UPS a state of the art facility, with the ability to efficiently handle high volumes of imports, exports as well as domestic Canadian shipments.

No Growth a Good Thing for Purfresh

Food and water purification and preservation firm, Purfresh Incorporated, has announced that the Californian company’s Purfresh Transport system has, been shown in a recent study to be more effective than fungicides in a pineapple shipment from Costa Rica to the United Kingdom. During the sixteen day transatlantic shipment, pineapples in a control container were treated with a typical fungicide and wax combination, whilst pineapples transported in the Purfresh container were transported with no efforts to thwart fungal growth, other than being contained within the Purfresh Transport system.

FedEx Express Looks to 2009 Opening for Asia Pacific Hub

Express freight subsidiary of transportation giant FedEx Corporation, FedEx Express FedEx Express fleet of aircrafthas revised its timetable for the opening of its new Asia Pacific hub at China’s Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.  The company announcing that it plans to see the facility fully operation in the first half of 2009.

In revising the timetable for the hubs opening, FedEx Express has moved to ensure that  ample time is available to fully test all systems and processes at the facility, as well as ensuring that all all necessary approvals are in place.  Previous months having already seen the company moving forward in the areas of construction, IT, employee training, and the installation of the hub’s unique package and sorting system.

Pirate Threat Forces Odfjell Route Change

Bulk liquids and chemical shipping company, Odfjell, has announced its intention to re-route its fleet of owned, managed and time chartered ships to avoid the Gulf of Aden after the company determined that the region provided to great a risk to employee and asset safety.

Odfjell SE TankerInstead of entering the treacherous region, Odfjell will now route its vessels around the the Cape of Good Hope, no longer exposing crews and vessels to to the risk of being hijacked and held for ransom by pirates, as has been seen in recent times.

Regulatory Issues Delay Clean Truck Fee Collection

The implementation of the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach Clean Truck Fee, has again been delayed pending resolution of outstanding regulatory issues. 

One issue yet to be resolved relates to an agreement filed with the Clean Truck ProgramFederal Maritime Commission (FMC) regarding both ports arrangement with Port Check, the company established by members of the West Coast Marine Terminal Operators Agreement (WCMTOA) to collect tariffs associated with the Clean Truck Fee, as well as police bans on older, more polluting trucks.

Further Medical Options to be Provided by UPS in Puerto Rico

Global express freight company, United Parcel Service, has announced that it will expand services directed towards the health care sector with the addition of a new state-of-the-art facility in Puerto Rico, the 150,000-square-foot facility will open in the first quarter on 2009.

The facility, located in San Juan, Puerto Rico, will allow UPS Healthcarefor the storage and transfer of both medical devices as well as sensitive and perishable pharmaceutical and biotech products.  The facility thus able to offer to the regions health care sector a broad range of options when handling new product introductions to the region as well as meeting time-critical commitments as required by the industry.
