Lufthansa Cargo Flies the First Air Freight "e-freight" from Germany

German cargo airline Lufthansa Cargo has announced the first ever paperless airfreight shipment from the German market, the company pairing with fellow German firm DB Schenker to see the shipment dispatched on time on board Lufthansa Passage’s flight LH712 from Frankfurt to Seoul in South Korea.

Having taken place a month Lufthansa Cargoearlier than planned, the "e-freight" shipment heralds a new era for Lufthansa Cargo, with the airline now intending to gradually expand the use of e-freight between Germany and Korea, as well as extending the program to additional German stations and markets in Asia like Singapore and Hong Kong.

Acquisition Opponents Fall Short on House Vote

The latest chapter of the story that is Canadian National Railway’s  attempted Rail Crossingacquisition of the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway Company (EJ&E) has concluded in the United States House of Representatives with proponents of House Resolution 6707,  the Taking Responsible Action for Community Safety Act, falling short of the two thirds majority needed to pass the resolution after being considered on the House floor under suspension of the rules.

While the resolution received yay votes from 206 Democrats and 37 Republicans for a total of 243 votes, 175 members of the House registered nay votes, they being divided between 22 Democrats and 153 Republicans.  Fifteen House members did not vote on the resolution.

Aeroflot Cargo Commences London Stansted Flights

Russian Federation cargo airline, Aeroflot Cargo has announced the commencement of flights into London’s Stansted airport, the airline opting to fly to the London airport rather than Manchester Airport that was previously the cargo airlines destination in Great Britain.

Utilising Boeing 737-300 Aeroflot Cargo 737-300FFreighter aircraft, Aeroflot Cargo has said that it will fly from Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International Airport to Stansted twice weekly on Thursdays and Friday’s.  The move designed to optimise the carriers route network as well as minimising costs for the airlines British customers.

Canadian National Responds to Agency Ruling

Canadian National Railway With the Canadian Transportation Agency handing down a ruling yesterday advising that rail freight operator Canadian National Railway had not met its obligations under the Canada Transportation Act to four grain producers in Western Canada, the railway has again found itself in the unwelcome territory of unfriendly scrutiny.

However, in responding to enquiry from Freightscene.com, the railway was eager to point out that it had met its obligations to the biggest grain producer in Canada, the Canadian Wheat board, which according to Canadian National’s Mark Hallman, controls over half of the grain shipments in the system.

Western Canada’s Grain Growers Admonish Canadian National

A ruling revealed today by the Canadian Transportation Agency has found Canadian National Railway did not provided an adequate, reasonable or suitable level of service for the movement of grain from Western Canada for the past crop year.

Candian National RailwaySix grain shippers had complained to the Canadian Transport Agency over what they deemed were deficiencies in Canadian National’s service, and while the agency found that Canadian National had met it’s obligations to the Canadian Wheat Board and Providence Grain Group Inc, four company’s, North East Terminal Ltd, Paterson Grain, Parrish and Heimbecker Limited, and North West Terminal Ltd, the agency determined, were not provided with an adequate and reasonable service.

Logwin Expands Brazilian Operation

International provider of freight logistics services, Logwin Logistics has moved to strengthen the company’s presence in Brazil with the installation of two offices in a third Brazilian city.

Having already located facilities in the Brazilian cities of Santos and Sao Paulo, Logwinthis latest expansion by Logwin has seen the company locate a new sales office at Campinas as well as an additional office and the Viracopos Campinas International airport.  The company having started operating the offices in Campinas from the beginning of September.

Alpine Air Express Adds to Beech Turboprop Fleet

Utah headquartered regional air cargo operator Alpine Air Express has announced the acquisition of four Beech 1900 turboprop aircraft to add the airlines existing fleet which already sports twelve of the 1900 type as well as sixteen Beech 99 aircraft.Beech 1900C

Operating cargo flights in six states in the United States of America, Alpine Air Express carry’s a variety of cargoes for the United States Postal Service, as well as other international carriers.

ZIM and China Shipping Increase Asia Europe Cooperation

Israeli shipping firm ZIM Integrated Shipping(ZIM) announced this week that the Company has increased cooperation with China’s, China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL), by increasing the amount of slots available to it’s customers on CSCL, on the Chinese company’s Asia Europe service.

ZIM Integrated Shipping Totaling a 3,750 Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit (TEU) capacity per week, the first CSCL westbound sailing to apply the increased agreement will sail from Le Havre on October the eighteenth.

FedEx Adds Capacity to Vietnam Via New Service

FedEx Express, the express transportation arm of global freight company FedEx Corporation has announced a five-fold increase to capacities into and out of Vietnam, the increase coming as a result of the company placing a new aircraft into service on the route to Vietnam.

FedEx ExpressThe introduction of the new flight is set to see an improvement in transit times into and out of the capital, Hanoi, by at least twenty-four hours.  Customers, according to the company, will be able to take advantage of the best delivery and cut-off times available in the city.

TNT Announces Eight-City Expansion in China

Global express delivery company TNT has announced a further round of  expansions for the company in China, the move coming in the wake of an expansion to it’s Asian road network that is based in China, earlier in the year.

TNT in China The new activity in China will see TNT add eight new branches to its international express network in the country by the end of the year, the new branches an indication of the continued investment in China by TNT, the company now boasting a total of 34 branches in the country.
