Georgian Freight Firm Awaits Developments

Georgian based freight company, CaucusTransExpress has found itself in the unenviable position of being caught up in the fighting and hostile military manoeuvres, taking place within Georgia, with much of the country’s transport infrastructure coming to a halt in the wake of the fighting.

CaucusTransExpress has been advising customers of the ongoing situation with brief but concise Poti Sea Portstatements on the company’s website(*).  The latest statement, posted today, mentions the continuing Russian presence in the main strategic areas of the country. Indeed the Georgian centres of Zugdidi, Poti, Senaki and Gori are all still said to be under Russian occupation, with the main, east-west road still closed.

According to CaucusTransExpress, both the Georgian ports of Poti and Batumi are said to be operational at this time, although some ships scheduled to enter the ports have postponed their entry.  CaucusTransExpress also reports that most of the truck traffic scheduled to enter Georgia has accumulated at Trabzon in Turkey.

At present air transport to and from Georgia is mainly limited to humanitarian aid, although two airlines, Airzena and Ukrainian airways, according to CaucusTransExpress are still operating flights into and out of the country.

Tbilisi, the Georgian capital remains under Georgian government control at this time, as such CaucusTransExpress state offices are said to be operating as normal, however the company is awaiting further developments both in Georgia and around the world as diplomatic efforts to end hostilities take place.
