Cargojet’s Fleet Gets its 757-200
Canada’s leading air cargo company Cargojet has announced the arrival of the Boeing 757-200ERF or Extended Range Freighter aircraft to join the airlines fleet, with plans for the aircraft to enter service later this month.
With the aim of replacing Cargojet’s venerable 727-200 freighters, the 757-200ERF arrival at Cargojet will give the airline increased payload capacities as well as better fuel efficiency. Indeed the Boeing 757-200ERF is able to carry a maximum payload of 80,500 pounds in approximately 8,300 cubic feet of space, a 33 percent increase over the B727-200.
Commenting on the arrival of the new aircraft at Cargojet, the company’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Ajay Virmani said that "We are very excited to be the first and only Canadian air cargo operator to introduce this newer generation, more fuel efficient environmentally friendly and long range aircraft to our fleet." Virmani added that the addition of the Boeing 757-200ERF allows Cargojet to "maximize the efficient deployment of capacity on our core domestic overnight network and to further expand into selected international markets."
According to the Boeing Company, some of the advantages of the 757-200 freighter aircraft include a large side cargo door in the forward fuselage, a single crew entry door just ahead of it, and a windowless freighter interior measuring 6,600 cubic feet of cargo space on the main deck. The Aircraft also has the ability to carry additional loads in the lower holds located forward and aft of the wing.
