Lufthansa Cargo Unaffected by Industrial Action

Industrial action that had plagued the passenger arm of Lufthansa has, according to a statement by Lufthansa, had little effect on the company’s cargo operations.

Whilst the strike carried out by members of the Vereinte Dienstleistungsgewerkschaft (ver.di) union delayed and grounded some passenger flights, Lufthansa Ver.di Members on StrikeCargo’s 19 MD-11F freighter aircraft, it is reported, operated from both the Frankfurt and Leipzig hubs without interruption.  The only delays experience by the cargo arm being slight delays in Road Feeder Services during the time of the strike, however not even these delays are believed to be strike related.

Despite the fact that the strike had not yet effected cargo operations, it will no doubt come as a relief to shippers that both Lufthansa and the ver.di trade union have now come to an agreement to end the five day strike, with the industrial action set to end with tomorrows morning shift or earlier, if working conditions allow.

The ver.di union had said that over ninety percent of Lufthansa’s workforce had chosen to go on strike with employees from all areas, including that of cargo, voting to undertake industrial action.
