FedEx Express Introduces Fuel Efficient Narrowbody into Service
FedEx Express, the express logistics subsidiary of global freight transportation company FedEx Corporation, have announced the introduction of the Boeing 757, narrowbody freighter aircraft into revenue service. The company employing the aircraft on flights, eight times a week, between Memphis International Airport and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
The introduction of the Boeing 757 Freighter enables FedEx Express to replace older aircraft and thus
utilizing a more fuel efficient fleet. A fleet that will not only contribute to the company’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but that will also see the company improving fuel consumption rates for its fleet, not an insignificant achievement amongst a climate of rapidly rising oil prices.
The company plans to introduce an additional 11 Boeing 757s into service over the next year, with benefits to customers expected as well as those for the environment and the company’s bottom line. Indeed FedEx Express expects that the 757’s payload capacity, greater than that of the 727 aircraft it will replace, will provide for increased reliability, connectivity and quality of FedEx’s service.
Commenting on the introduction of the 757 Freighter into FedEx Express service, the President and Chief Executive Officer of FedEx Express, David Bronczek said that "The introduction of the 757 freighter to our fleet of aircraft, one of the largest in the world, is a significant milestone for FedEx,” and that the "new service immediately expands our reach and capacity in the mid-Atlantic region and enhances the access our customers have in the global marketplace."
