Group Says Over 6000 Show Up to Object to EJ&E Deal

The group, The Regional Answer to Canadian National or TRAC, reported this week that over six thousands residents have attended the first week of meetings set up by the United States Surface Transportation Board, to object to the acquisition of the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway Company by Canada’s Canadian National Railway.

With the next set of meetings scheduled to commence on September eight, TRAC is urging all residents in affected communities to turn out to the meetings to register their objections to the acquisition.  Canadian National Rail Crossinghaving petitioned the Surface Transportation Board to decide by September 15 whether it will modify its schedule to provide for a decision on the transportation merits of the acquisition by October fifteen.

FedEx Express to Commence Domestic Service in Mexico

The express transportation subsidiary of the FedEx Corporation, FedEx Express, announced this week that the company will commence domestic services within Mexico from early October.

To be known as FedEx Expressthe FedEx Express Nacional service, among the products available to Mexican consumers via FedeX Express Nacional will be a domestic next-business-day service that provides highly reliable, convenient and quality express shipping solutions across the country.

Energy Terminal Opens for KAG in Louisiana

Petroleum transportation and logistics provider, Keenan Advantage Group (KAG) has announced the opening of a new fuels delivery terminal in Geismar, Louisiana.  The facility located to provide transportation solutions to the sizeable petroleum industry located in the southern state.

To be managed by the KAG subsidiary, Keenan Transport Company (KTC) , Geismar Facilitythe terminal is actually located alongside existing facilities operated by KTC’s sister company, Transport Service Co, of the company’s Specialty Product’s Group.

TAM Cargo Supersizes Brazilian Facility

TAM Cargo, the freight unit of Brazilian airline TAM Linhas Aéreas, has announced the inaugural operations of a new and larger freight terminal in the Brazilian city of Manaus.  The new facility boasting a number of improvements over the previous facility utilised by TAM Cargo.

TAM Linhas Aéreas S.A.According to the airline, the new Manaus terminal consists of an operating area of 2,160 metres, allowing for a storage capacity of more than 80 tonnes per day.  The increased size and spaciousness of the terminal set to make its easier for large vehicle manoeuvrability and parking, allowing freight shipments to be dispatched faster.

CN and Thunder Bay Port Work to Open Up Project Freight Corridor

A result of the heady heights of world oil prices, the extraction of oil from bitumen sands in Canada is now more and more commercially viable.  One of these projects overseen by Canadian Natural Resources Limited is at Fort McMurray.

A result of the Fort McMurray Oil Sands Project Train and Cargoproject and the industry’s progression is now the partnership between the Port of Thunder Bay and Canadian National Railway, to develop a competitive routing option for oil sands project cargo destined for For Western Canada.

TRAC Lists Problems with Environmental Impact Statement

One of the groups formed to fight the acquisition of the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway Company (EJ&E) by Canadian National Railway, The Regional Answer to Canadian National (TRAC), has made public a list of flaws the group sees with the Draft Environmental Impact Statement released by the United States Surface Transportation Board.

Level CrossingThe group, which is made up of a number of communities that have the EJ&E rail lines transiting through their neighbourhoods, have listed twenty points of argument and or disagreement with the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) that the STB have released, the group preparing for a number of public hearings that are scheduled to take place throughout the affected region in the coming days and weeks.

Whirlpool Assigns Kenco to Giant Warehouse Management Task

Tennessee based Kenco Logistics Services has announced that the company is to manage a huge 1.6 million square feet distribution facility in Columbus Ohio for the electrical appliances company whirlpool.

The agreement between Kenco Distribution CentreWhirlpool and Kenco Logistics Services (Kenco) will see the logistics services company manage an existing Whirlpool warehouse, nearby to the new distribution facility, from the first of September.  Subsequent to this, Kenco will manage the transition from the existing facility to the new distribution facility, once it is opened in early October.

Maersk Line Announces Boomerang Service to Australia

Danish headquartered container shipping giant, Maersk Line has announced enhancements to their service to the Australian continent from Asia.  The new service to be known as "Boomerang" will combine three existing services into one single rotation.

Maersk Line in Australian Waters Maersk Line describes the new service as a unique and innovative solution to servicing the Australian market and that the "pendulum loop" of which the service consists, will encapsulate the deployment of ten vessels allowing for the optimal combination of efficiency through size and ability to operate at economical speeds.

UPS Train in Alaska

The airline subsidiary of global express delivery company United Parcel service, UPS Airlines, has announced that the company has opened a new flight training facility in Anchorage, Alaska.

The facility, the second of its type for UPS, measures over 27,000 square feet UPS 747-400and will house two flight simulators, classrooms and offices.  Operating up to 20 hours each day, it is hoped that the facility will reduce the time spent away from home for training by Anchorage-based pilots, who otherwise would have had to travel to UPS’s Worldport base in Louisville Kentucky for their training.
