Intermodal Facility in Joliet Gets City Council Approval

Approval for a $2 billion dollar, Centerpoint Properties integrated logistics centre has been granted by the City of Joliet as the proposal is expected to bring to the region approximately 6,900 Jobs and $765 million dollars in annual economic output.

The facility, which is to cover about 3,600 acres of land immediately south and adjacent to Joliet will Intermodal Centremirror an existing integrated logistics centre in nearby Elwood.  A facility that has seen economic benefit for the region with revenues going up nearly 10-fold and annual local wages increasing more than 50 percent.

Commenting in the wake of receiving approval, the Chief Executive Officer of Centerpoint Properties, Michael Mullen said that  "We are so pleased with the support we’ve received from the City of Joliet and Will County." Mullen added, "It is our experience that the responsible development of integrated logistics centres benefits customers, boosts economies and enhances the quality of life in the communities that embrace them. We are proud to be a part of Joliet and are eager to provide a platform for global industry here in Will County."

Tom White of the Will and Grundy Counties Building Trades Council also hailed the City of Joliet’s decision, saying that "It takes bold vision to prepare Joliet for the future, and the City does just that by partnering with CenterPoint on this development, all the while creating thousands of high-paying jobs that will generate millions for the region."
