Barge Incident Closes Sections of Mississippi River

River freight company American Commercial Lines has advised the media today of an incident concerning one of the firms liquid barges on a section of the Mississippi River.

Early details indicate that the incident involved a collision with the motor Barge Freightvessel Tintomara at Mile Marker 97 of the Mississippi River in the New Orleans area, thus, the incident has seen sections of Lower Mississippi River from LM80 through LM99 closed while environmental assessment, containment and clean-up operations take place.

American Commercial Lines (ACL) have indicated that their barge was being towed by a vessel from the DRD Towing Company at the time of the incident and that although  ACL is not responsible for the incident, the company is working closely with DRD Towing, the Coast Guard and other relevant Authorities.

American Commercial Lines operates a domestic transportation fleet of over 3,000 barges and 120 tow boats throughout the United States Inland Waterways System.
