Nord-Flyg to add Speedy Regional Freighters
Swedish aviation firm, Nord-Flyg has announced the the company has contracted Cascade Aerospace to convert two of the company’s Bombardier
Q400 aircraft, to the Q400-PF, "Package Freighter" variant.
To be converted at the Cascade Aerospace, heavy maintenance and modification facility in Abbotsford, British Columbia, the two aircraft post modification will be capable of of carrying up to 40 standard EuroPallets in the 85 cubic metre interior.
Speaking to the conversions which are expected to be completed by August, Nord-Flyg President, Ulf Darenius said that "The Cascade Q400-PF Package Freighter will be appreciated as additional work horse to Nord-Flyg’s present freighter fleet." Darenius added that "Nord-Flyg is convinced that this new generation turboprop will be welcomed by the industry, because of its ability to perform at jet-like speeds on both long and short haul routes."
According to Cascade Aerospace, the Q400-PF Package Freighter is based on a similar conversion the company produced for the Government of France which was that of a multi-role Airtanker, dubbed by Cascade as the Q400-MR.
The Q400-PF Package Freighter will be of similar design to the Q400MR and will use the existing Cascade STC, except that the PF will employ a multi-zone, vertical net system to accommodate packages which, for Nord-Flyg, are typically mail packages.
Nord-Flyg currently operates both the Cessna 208B Caravan and Piper PA31 Navajo aircraft, and carry’s numerous freight types including mail, newspapers as well as dangerous goods cargoes, throughout the Scandinavia and Baltic States.
