More Space for UPS at Fort Myers
Global freight delivery company United Parcel Service (UPS) has announced an investment of $16.5 million dollars to expand the company’s facility in Fort Myers, Florida. The announcement coming in the wake of greater demand for freight handling space at the southern Florida facility.
The present sorting facility is set to expand by some 30,000 square feet as a result of the expansion. The additional space as well as the installation of modern technology, will, according to the company, make the loading and unloading of packages easier and accelerate the facility’s sorting capacity from 6,000 pieces per hour to 13,000 per hour. The company is also understood to be developing another 5.4 acre lot at the site to construct employee parking, as well as fuelling and truck washing facilities.
Commenting on the expansion, UPS Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for UPS’s South Florida District William Smith said that the expansion is expected to “double the size of the current facility” and will allow UPS to “continue to serve the growing needs of customers on Florida’s southwest coast.”
