Northwest Airlines Cargo Announces Surcharge Increase

In another indication of the rising price of petroleum products around the world, air cargo operator Northwest Airlines Cargo (NWA Cargo) has announced an increase to the fuel surcharge applied on its air freight routes.

The airline says that the new rates will take effect after the 16th of march andNorthwest Airlines see the surcharge rise by five cents per kilogram for international routes, and two cents for NWA Cargo’s domestic routes.  Additionally some routes from the United States to China will see NWA Cargo implement an additional five cents per kilogram above the base rate.

While the increases are subject to government approval, the rise in world oil prices to consistent levels above $100 dollars a barrel, is having a negative impact on the financial position of airlines around the world.
